Subdivision and property line maps
This is a map of the addresses of the houses that are currently standing.
This is the original subdivision map as filed with the county in 1904 with the names of the original property owners listed by lot.
In 1911 Bracken Brae was further subdivided and the new subdivision was called ‘subdivision 1’ which is a little misleading.
In the 1970’s Galleon Properties tried any way they could to steal Bracken Brae’s land and water. They had a survey done based on an erroneous map from 1885 where the corner markers had been misplaced in favor of Galleon. Horace Wanzer was the surveyor in 1885 at one time a county clerk. He had several mentions in the paper of him evading debts to people. He was also tried and convicted of stealing $275 from the county.

Records were not easy to obtain in the 1970’s but you could easily access the county maps. Getting the original 1868 survey ‘plats’ was not so easy as they are stored in Sacramento. Bracken Brae was smart to hire a professional surveyor or we could have lost 7.5 acres. Luckily, the 1868 survey maps clearly show that the property belongs to Bracken Brae.
