Postcards

When Bracken Brae was founded postcards were the social media of the day and used extensively for marketing. I was able to find a few cards online. One of them turned out to be my house!

Dear Leora, did you ever go left? We’re at this place Saturday. It is grand. Saw Mr and Mrs Moars names on the registry. – Laura
Postcard circa 1905 of the water tower and trough that used to be at the southwest corner of Bracken Brae property. This would be past the bus stop going toward the golf course at the first house on the right. The roads were dirt and the water tank was to fill sprinkling trucks which would water the streets to keep dust down.
This was in the ‘Royal Gorge’ which is upstream from Bracken Brae and used to be considered part of the club. Technically the property was owned by member Suzie Jackson. It was a popular spot in the early 1900’s.
Circa 1905 – This is the wooden bridge preceding the one there today. You can see the entrance to Bracken Brae on the right just before the bridge support. This would not have been the most used entrance. Park avenue was the main thoroughfare at this time.
